Charlene Dupasquier is a pioneer of unwavering determination and boundless courage. Her story is not merely one of overcoming physical challenges but of transcending them with a fervent passion for life and adventure.

Living with Axial Spondyloarthritis (AxSpA), a chronic inflammatory disease primarily affecting the spine and sacroiliac joints, Charlene’s path has been marked by hurdles that would have deterred many. But for Charlène, a lifelong athlete and adventurer, these challenges became catalysts for a remarkable journey of self-discovery and triumph.

From her earliest days, Charlene’s love for athletics permeated every facet of her existence. However, her journey took an unexpected turn when she was diagnosed with AxSpA. Instead of succumbing to despair, Charlene confronted her diagnosis with resilience, refusing to let it define her or dampen her adventurous spirit. Through perseverance and an unyielding determination to defy limitations, she embarked on a transformative journey of adaptation and acceptance.

One could assume that a diagnosis of AxSpA would signal the end of Charlene’s athletic pursuits. However, for her, it became a catalyst for redefining the boundaries of what was possible. With unwavering resolve, she charted a new course, refusing to compromise on her passion for exploration and adventure.

“I never thought walking or running would ever be a challenge. The pain is now present with every movement… I feel lost. But despite it all, I hang in there. Movement, though it may be painful, is the key to a possible remission, combined with the right biotherapy.”

Now, with her incredible team, Charlene is poised to embark on her most ambitious expedition yet – a breathtaking journey through the picturesque countryside of two provinces, Quebec and New Brunswick, entitled “Arundo.” Charlene and her team will traverse rugged terrain, covering 30,000 m of elevation gain, with 82% of the trails unpaved.

Through their expedition, Charlene and her team aim to inspire others facing similar challenges to embrace life’s adventures with courage and tenacity, proving that with perseverance and unwavering determination, no summit is too high to reach. The Arundo Expedition is the focus for a documentary of Charlene’s cycling journey, coming to terms with her illness. The expedition will be filmed by Richard Marsdens, a filmmaker with a passion for adventure. This unique film will be launched at international film festivals in 2026.

As we globally celebrate World AS Day, Charlene’s journey serves as a poignant reminder of the resilience and fortitude that define the human spirit. Her story inspires us to transcend our limitations, defy the odds, and embrace life’s adventures with unwavering courage and boundless enthusiasm.
