Je <\/span>m'appelle<\/span> Erin et <\/span>j'ai<\/span> 33 ans. Dans <\/span>mon<\/span> <\/span>enfance<\/span>, je me suis <\/span>toujours<\/span> <\/span>sentie<\/span> <\/span>diff\u00e9rente<\/span>. Je <\/span>n'arrivais<\/span> pas \u00e0 <\/span>suivre<\/span> <\/span>mes<\/span> <\/span>camarades<\/span>. <\/span>J'\u00e9tais<\/span> plus lent, plus <\/span>fatigu\u00e9<\/span> et <\/span>personne<\/span> ne <\/span>comprenait<\/span> <\/span>pourquoi<\/span>. Mes <\/span>amis<\/span> <\/span>pouvaient<\/span> <\/span>grimper<\/span> aux <\/span>arbres<\/span>, <\/span>courir<\/span> <\/span>vite<\/span> et faire tant de choses que je ne <\/span>pouvais<\/span> <\/span>pas<\/span> faire. <\/span>J'avais<\/span> des <\/span>douleurs<\/span> que <\/span>tous<\/span> les <\/span>m\u00e9decins<\/span> <\/span>ignoraient<\/span>. <\/span>Ils<\/span> <\/span>disaient<\/span> que je <\/span>m'\u00e9tais<\/span> <\/span>foul\u00e9<\/span> la cheville, que <\/span>je<\/span> <\/span>devais<\/span> <\/span>perdre<\/span> du <\/span>poids<\/span> <\/span>ou<\/span> que <\/span>je<\/span> <\/span>devais<\/span> <\/span>\u00eatre<\/span> plus active. <\/span>C'\u00e9tait<\/span> <\/span>frustrant<\/span> <\/span>parce<\/span> que <\/span>c'est<\/span> <\/span>exactement<\/span> <\/span>ce<\/span> que <\/span>je<\/span> <\/span>voulais<\/span> <\/span>aussi<\/span> et <\/span>j'avais<\/span> <\/span>l'impression<\/span> que <\/span>personne<\/span> ne <\/span>m'entendait<\/span> <\/span>ou<\/span> ne me <\/span>comprenait<\/span>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>

En tant <\/span>qu'adulte<\/span>, il <\/span>est<\/span> d\u00e9j\u00e0 difficile de se faire <\/span>\u00e9couter<\/span> par les <\/span>m\u00e9decins<\/span>, <\/span>mais<\/span> <\/span>en<\/span> tant <\/span>qu'enfant<\/span>, <\/span>c'est<\/span> encore plus difficile. La <\/span>douleur<\/span> dans ma cheville <\/span>\u00e9tait<\/span> <\/span>pourtant<\/span> <\/span>persistante<\/span>. Elle ne <\/span>cessait<\/span> de <\/span>s'aggraver<\/span>. Les <\/span>m\u00e9decins<\/span> <\/span>faisaient<\/span> des radiographies, <\/span>disaient<\/span> que tout <\/span>allait<\/span> bien <\/span>et<\/span> me <\/span>renvoyaient<\/span> chez <\/span>moi<\/span> avec un bandage de contention. Ma <\/span>m\u00e8re<\/span> <\/span>\u00e9tait<\/span> <\/span>f\u00e9rocement<\/span> <\/span>d\u00e9termin\u00e9e<\/span>, car <\/span>elle<\/span> <\/span>savait<\/span> que quelque chose <\/span>d'autre<\/span> <\/span>n'allait<\/span> pas. Quelque chose de plus grave se <\/span>produisait<\/span>. <\/span>Puis<\/span>, \u00e0 <\/span>l'\u00e2ge<\/span> de 14 <\/span>ans<\/span>, nous <\/span>avons<\/span> <\/span>consult\u00e9<\/span> un nouveau <\/span>m\u00e9decin<\/span>. Nous ne nous <\/span>attendions<\/span> pas aux <\/span>m\u00eames<\/span> <\/span>r\u00e9ponses<\/span>, <\/span>mais<\/span> <\/span>ce<\/span> <\/span>m\u00e9decin<\/span> a <\/span>regard\u00e9<\/span> <\/span>mes<\/span> <\/span>sympt\u00f4mes<\/span> et <\/span>mes<\/span> <\/span>ant\u00e9c\u00e9dents<\/span> et a <\/span>demand\u00e9<\/span> \u00e0 <\/span>voir<\/span> <\/span>mes<\/span> <\/span>ongles<\/span>. <\/span>J'avais<\/span> mis du <\/span>vernis<\/span> \u00e0 <\/span>ongles<\/span> et <\/span>une<\/span> <\/span>fois<\/span> <\/span>qu'il<\/span> <\/span>l'a<\/span> <\/span>enlev\u00e9<\/span>, il a vu <\/span>tous<\/span> les \u00ab <\/span>trous<\/span> \u00bb dans <\/span>mes<\/span> <\/span>ongles<\/span> et a <\/span>regard\u00e9<\/span> ma <\/span>m\u00e8re<\/span> et a <\/span>dit<\/span> \u00ab <\/span>elle<\/span> a un <\/span>rhumatisme<\/span> <\/span>psoriasique<\/span> \u00bb. <\/span>C'est<\/span> tout. Nous avions <\/span>enfin<\/span> <\/span>un diagnostic<\/span>. Une <\/span>r\u00e9ponse<\/span>. Je <\/span>n'\u00e9tais<\/span> pas <\/span>en<\/span> train de <\/span>l'imaginer<\/span>. <\/span>C'est<\/span> <\/span>ainsi<\/span> <\/span>qu'a<\/span> <\/span>commenc\u00e9<\/span> le tourbillon qui <\/span>allait<\/span> <\/span>devenir<\/span> ma \u00ab nouvelle \u00bb vie <\/span>normale<\/span>. Ma \u00ab nouvelle \u00bb vie. <\/span>J'ai<\/span> <\/span>commenc\u00e9<\/span> \u00e0 prendre du <\/span>m\u00e9thotrexate<\/span> et du <\/span>naprox\u00e8ne<\/span> par <\/span>voie<\/span> <\/span>orale<\/span> <\/span>cette<\/span> <\/span>semaine-l\u00e0<\/span>, <\/span>mais<\/span> <\/span>j'ai<\/span> <\/span>d\u00fb<\/span> <\/span>arr\u00eater<\/span> le <\/span>naprox\u00e8ne<\/span> <\/span>imm\u00e9diatement<\/span> car il <\/span>s'est<\/span> <\/span>av\u00e9r\u00e9<\/span> que <\/span>j'\u00e9tais<\/span> <\/span>allergique<\/span>!\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t<\/div>

Mon \u00e9cole <\/span>secondaire<\/span> a <\/span>\u00e9t\u00e9<\/span> difficile pour <\/span>moi<\/span>. Je <\/span>prenais<\/span> deux autobus pour <\/span>aller<\/span> \u00e0 <\/span>l'\u00e9cole<\/span> et deux pour <\/span>rentrer<\/span> \u00e0 la <\/span>maison<\/span>, et <\/span>c'\u00e9tait<\/span> difficile. Les escaliers \u00e0 <\/span>l'\u00e9cole<\/span> <\/span>\u00e9taient<\/span> <\/span>\u00e9galement<\/span> <\/span>difficiles<\/span>. <\/span>J'ai<\/span> manqu\u00e9 beaucoup <\/span>d'heures<\/span> de <\/span>cours<\/span>. <\/span>J'ai<\/span> <\/span>cependant<\/span> <\/span>suivi<\/span> un <\/span>cours<\/span> <\/span>coop\u00e9ratif<\/span> <\/span>en<\/span> <\/span>travaillant<\/span> dans <\/span>une<\/span> <\/span>classe<\/span> de <\/span>maternelle<\/span>. <\/span>J'ai<\/span> <\/span>atteint<\/span> <\/span>une<\/span> note de 98 % et <\/span>j'ai<\/span> <\/span>re\u00e7u<\/span> le prix de la <\/span>pr\u00e9sence<\/span> <\/span>parfaite<\/span>, car <\/span>j'ai<\/span> fait tout <\/span>ce<\/span> que <\/span>j'ai<\/span> <\/span>pu<\/span> pour <\/span>aller<\/span> <\/span>voir<\/span> <\/span>ces<\/span> enfants <\/span>tous<\/span> les <\/span>jours<\/span>, <\/span>m\u00eame<\/span> <\/span>si<\/span> <\/span>cela<\/span> <\/span>signifiait<\/span> ramper. <\/span>J'ai<\/span> <\/span>toujours<\/span> <\/span>su<\/span> que <\/span>j'aimais<\/span> les <\/span>enfants !<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t<\/div>

En 2005, \u00e0 <\/span>l'\u00e2ge<\/span> de 19 <\/span>ans<\/span>, <\/span>j'ai<\/span> <\/span>rencontr\u00e9<\/span> <\/span>mon<\/span> <\/span>futur<\/span> <\/span>mari<\/span>. Il <\/span>est<\/span> extraordinaire. Il me <\/span>comprend<\/span> du <\/span>mieux<\/span> <\/span>qu'il<\/span> <\/span>peut<\/span> et <\/span>n'essaie<\/span> pas de me <\/span>r\u00e9parer<\/span> <\/span>ou<\/span> de me changer. Nous <\/span>avons<\/span> tout de suite <\/span>su<\/span> que nous <\/span>voulions<\/span> des enfants et nous <\/span>avons<\/span> <\/span>parl\u00e9<\/span> \u00e0 <\/span>mon<\/span> <\/span>rhumatologue<\/span> de la <\/span>possibilit\u00e9<\/span> de <\/span>concevoir<\/span>. Nous <\/span>savions<\/span> que la route <\/span>risquait<\/span> d'\u00eatre difficile. Nous <\/span>n'\u00e9tions<\/span> pas <\/span>s\u00fbrs<\/span> de <\/span>ce<\/span> que les <\/span>m\u00e9dicaments<\/span> <\/span>ou<\/span> la <\/span>maladie<\/span> <\/span>elle-m\u00eame<\/span> <\/span>avaient<\/span> fait \u00e0 <\/span>mon<\/span> corps. <\/span>Serions<\/span>-nous <\/span>capables<\/span> <\/span>d'avoir<\/span> des enfants <\/span>naturellement<\/span> ? Ou tout <\/span>simplement<\/span> ? \u00c0 <\/span>ce<\/span> moment-<\/span>l\u00e0<\/span>, <\/span>j'ai<\/span> <\/span>commenc\u00e9<\/span> \u00e0 prendre un <\/span>m\u00e9dicament<\/span> <\/span>biologique<\/span> <\/span>appel\u00e9<\/span> Enbrel pour <\/span>m'aider<\/span> \u00e0 <\/span>g\u00e9rer<\/span> <\/span>mes<\/span> <\/span>sympt\u00f4mes<\/span>. Mon <\/span>rhumatologue<\/span> <\/span>m'a<\/span> beaucoup <\/span>aid\u00e9e<\/span>. Il <\/span>m'a<\/span> <\/span>conseill\u00e9<\/span> <\/span>d'arr\u00eater<\/span> <\/span>tous<\/span> les <\/span>m\u00e9dicaments<\/span> pendant que <\/span>j'essayais<\/span>. Cela <\/span>s'est<\/span> <\/span>av\u00e9r\u00e9<\/span> tr\u00e8s difficile et douloureux, <\/span>mais<\/span> ma <\/span>famille<\/span> <\/span>m'a<\/span> beaucoup <\/span>aid\u00e9e<\/span> pendant <\/span>cette<\/span> <\/span>p\u00e9riode<\/span> et je <\/span>lui<\/span> <\/span>en<\/span> suis <\/span>\u00e9ternellement<\/span> <\/span>reconnaissante<\/span>. Je suis <\/span>tomb\u00e9e<\/span> enceinte <\/span>assez<\/span> <\/span>rapidement<\/span> et pendant la <\/span>grossesse<\/span>, <\/span>tous<\/span> <\/span>mes<\/span> <\/span>sympt\u00f4mes<\/span> <\/span>ont<\/span> <\/span>disparu<\/span> <\/span>comme<\/span> par <\/span>magie<\/span>. Je me suis <\/span>sentie<\/span> \u00ab <\/span>normale<\/span> \u00bb pendant <\/span>un certain<\/span> temps, <\/span>ce<\/span> qui <\/span>\u00e9tait<\/span> nouveau et <\/span>diff\u00e9rent<\/span> et <\/span>m'a<\/span> <\/span>soulag\u00e9e<\/span>. Nous <\/span>avons<\/span> <\/span>accueilli<\/span> <\/span>notre<\/span> magnifique fille <\/span>en<\/span> 2007. Nous <\/span>savions<\/span> que nous <\/span>voulions<\/span> <\/span>qu'elle<\/span> <\/span>ait<\/span> un fr\u00e8re <\/span>ou<\/span> <\/span>une<\/span> <\/span>s\u0153ur<\/span> et nous <\/span>avons<\/span> <\/span>donc<\/span> <\/span>d\u00e9cid\u00e9<\/span> <\/span>d'essayer<\/span> \u00e0 nouveau. Cette <\/span>fois<\/span>-ci, <\/span>cela<\/span> a pris <\/span>presque<\/span> deux <\/span>ans<\/span>, <\/span>mais<\/span> <\/span>en<\/span> 2013, nous <\/span>avons<\/span> <\/span>accueilli<\/span> <\/span>notre<\/span> beau petit <\/span>gar\u00e7on !<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
\u00catre<\/span> <\/span>m\u00e8re<\/span> de deux enfants <\/span>est<\/span> <\/span>parfois<\/span> difficile. Il y a des <\/span>jours<\/span> <\/span>o\u00f9<\/span> <\/span>sortir<\/span> du lit et les <\/span>pr\u00e9parer<\/span> pour <\/span>l'\u00e9cole<\/span> <\/span>est<\/span> plus difficile que <\/span>d'autres<\/span>, <\/span>mais<\/span> <\/span>\u00eatre<\/span> <\/span>m\u00e8re<\/span> <\/span>est<\/span> la <\/span>r\u00e9alisation<\/span> <\/span>dont<\/span> je suis la plus <\/span>fi\u00e8re<\/span>. Je <\/span>sais<\/span> que <\/span>c'est<\/span> gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 <\/span>eux<\/span> que je suis <\/span>ici<\/span>. Les <\/span>voir<\/span> <\/span>grandir<\/span> et <\/span>atteindre<\/span> <\/span>leurs<\/span> <\/span>objectifs<\/span> <\/span>est<\/span> tout pour <\/span>moi<\/span>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
En <\/span>mai<\/span> 2017, on <\/span>m'a<\/span> <\/span>diagnostiqu\u00e9<\/span> de <\/span>l'uv\u00e9ite<\/span>. Il <\/span>s'agit<\/span> <\/span>d'une<\/span> inflammation de <\/span>l'\u0153il<\/span>. Cette <\/span>maladie<\/span> <\/span>s'est<\/span> <\/span>av\u00e9r\u00e9e<\/span> <\/span>\u00eatre<\/span> la <\/span>bataille<\/span> la plus difficile \u00e0 <\/span>mener<\/span> <\/span>jusqu'\u00e0<\/span> <\/span>pr\u00e9sent<\/span>, car <\/span>elle<\/span> <\/span>pourrait<\/span> un jour me <\/span>priver<\/span> de ma vision. <\/span>J'ai<\/span> <\/span>imm\u00e9diatement<\/span> <\/span>commenc\u00e9<\/span> \u00e0 <\/span>recevoir<\/span> des injections de <\/span>m\u00e9thotrexate<\/span> au lieu d'un <\/span>traitement<\/span> oral et je suis <\/span>\u00e9galement<\/span> pass\u00e9 <\/span>d'Enbrel<\/span> \u00e0 Humira, <\/span>ce<\/span> qui a <\/span>chang\u00e9<\/span> ma vie. Mes <\/span>sympt\u00f4mes<\/span> <\/span>ont<\/span> <\/span>\u00e9t\u00e9<\/span> pris <\/span>en<\/span> charge par Enbrel, <\/span>mais<\/span> <\/span>depuis<\/span> que <\/span>j'ai<\/span> <\/span>commenc\u00e9<\/span> \u00e0 prendre Humira, <\/span>j'ai<\/span> <\/span>l'impression<\/span> de <\/span>retrouver<\/span> peu \u00e0 peu ma vie. <\/span>Mes<\/span> articulations se <\/span>sentent<\/span> <\/span>mieux<\/span> et je <\/span>peux<\/span> <\/span>suivre<\/span> <\/span>mes<\/span> enfants un peu <\/span>mieux<\/span>. Cela a <\/span>\u00e9t\u00e9<\/span> un <\/span>ajustement<\/span> de me faire des injections, <\/span>mais<\/span> <\/span>cela<\/span> <\/span>en<\/span> <\/span>vaut<\/span> la <\/span>peine<\/span> pour <\/span>garder<\/span> ma vision sous <\/span>contr\u00f4le<\/span>. <\/span>J'ai<\/span> <\/span>d\u00e9velopp\u00e9<\/span> des <\/span>cataractes<\/span> \u00e0 cause des gouttes de <\/span>st\u00e9ro\u00efdes<\/span> pour les <\/span>yeux<\/span>, <\/span>mais<\/span> <\/span>une<\/span> <\/span>fois<\/span> <\/span>qu'elles<\/span> <\/span>seront<\/span> <\/span>r\u00e9par\u00e9es<\/span>, ma vision <\/span>redeviendra<\/span> <\/span>ce<\/span> <\/span>qu'elle<\/span> <\/span>\u00e9tait<\/span> <\/span>avant<\/span> le <\/span>diagnostic !<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
Pendant que <\/span>j'\u00e9tais<\/span> enceinte de ma fille, <\/span>j'ai<\/span> <\/span>obtenu<\/span> <\/span>mon<\/span> <\/span>dipl\u00f4me<\/span> <\/span>d'organisatrice<\/span> de <\/span>mariages<\/span> et <\/span>j'esp\u00e8re<\/span> <\/span>pouvoir<\/span> commencer \u00e0 <\/span>travailler<\/span> dans <\/span>ce<\/span> <\/span>domaine<\/span> dans un avenir <\/span>proche<\/span>. <\/span>C'est<\/span> quelque chose que <\/span>j'ai<\/span> <\/span>toujours<\/span> voulu faire <\/span>depuis<\/span> que je suis petite et je suis <\/span>fi\u00e8re<\/span> <\/span>d'avoir<\/span> <\/span>pu<\/span> <\/span>atteindre<\/span> <\/span>cet<\/span> <\/span>objectif<\/span> !\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
Mon <\/span>rhumatisme<\/span> <\/span>psoriasique<\/span> a fait de <\/span>moi<\/span> <\/span>ce<\/span> que je suis <\/span>aujourd'hui<\/span>. Une <\/span>\u00e9pouse<\/span>. Une <\/span>m\u00e8re<\/span>. Une <\/span>guerri\u00e8re<\/span>. Une <\/span>combattante<\/span>. Je <\/span>sais<\/span> que <\/span>je<\/span> <\/span>peux<\/span> <\/span>r\u00e9aliser<\/span> tout <\/span>ce<\/span> <\/span>dont<\/span> je <\/span>r\u00eave<\/span>, je le <\/span>fais<\/span> <\/span>juste<\/span> un peu <\/span>diff\u00e9remment<\/span> de la <\/span>plupart<\/span> des gens. My name is Erin and I\u2019m 33 years old. I was diagnosed with psoriasis at age 9, psoriatic arthritis at age 14, and uveitis at age 30.<\/p>

As a child I always felt different. I couldn\u2019t keep up with my peers. I was slower, more tired and nobody could figure out why. My friends could climb trees, run fast and do so many that things I couldn\u2019t. I had aches and pains that all doctors ignored. They would say I sprained my ankle, or that I needed to lose weight, or that I needed to be more active. It was frustrating because that\u2019s exactly what I wanted as well and I felt like nobody was hearing me or understanding me.\u00a0<\/p>

As an adult it\u2019s hard enough to get doctors to listen to you but as a child it\u2019s even harder. The pain in my ankle was persistent though. It would not relent and just kept getting worse. Doctors would X-ray it and say everything looked fine and send me home with a tensor bandage. My mother was fiercely determined as she knew something more was wrong. Something bigger was happening. Then, at age 14 we saw a new doctor. Expecting the same answers we were not very hopeful but this doctor took one look at my symptoms and my history and asked to see my fingernails. I had nail polish on and once it was removed he saw all the \u2018pits\u2019 in my nails and looked at my mom and said \u2018she has psoriatic arthritis\u2019. That was it. We finally had a diagnosis. An answer. I wasn\u2019t imagining it. And so began the whirlwind that would become my \u2018new\u2019 normal. My \u2018new\u2019 life. I started oral methotrexate and naproxen that week, but I had to stop naproxen immediately as it turned out I am allergic!<\/p>

High school was hard for me. I took two buses to school, two back home and that was a struggle. Stairs at school were also tough. I missed a lot of school. I did however complete a co-op course working in a kindergarten class. I achieved a 98% and received the perfect attendance award as I did everything I could to get there everyday to see those kids even if it meant crawling. I always knew I loved kids!<\/p>

In 2005, at age 19, I met my future husband. He is amazing. He understands me as best he can and doesn\u2019t try to fix me or change me. We knew right away we wanted children and we spoke to my rheumatologist about conceiving. We knew we could possibly be in for a tough road. We weren\u2019t sure what the medications or the disease itself had done to my body. Would we be able to have kids naturally? Or at all? By this time I had started a biologic called Enbrel to help manage my symptoms. My rheumatologist was very helpful. Directing me to stop all medications while trying. This proved to be very hard and painful but my family was so helpful during that time and I am forever grateful for that. I got pregnant fairly quickly and during pregnancy all my symptoms magically disappeared. I felt \u2018normal\u2019 for a while which was new and different and a relief. We welcomed our beautiful daughter in 2007. We knew we wanted her to have a sibling so we decided to try again. This time took almost two years but in 2013 we welcome our handsome baby boy!<\/p>
Being a mom of two is sometimes a struggle. I have my days where getting out of bed and getting them ready for school is harder than others but being a mom is my proudest accomplishment. I know bringing them into this world is the reason I\u2019m here. Watching them grow and accomplish their goals is everything to me.\u00a0<\/p>
In May of 2017 I was diagnosed with uveitis. It is inflammation of the eye. It has proven to be the hardest battle yet as it could one day take my vision. I immediately started injections of methotrexate instead of oral and I also switched from Enbrel to Humira which has proven to be life changing. My symptoms were managed with Enbrel but since starting Humira I feel like I\u2019m slowly getting my life back. My joints are feeling better and I can keep up with my kids a bit better. It\u2019s been an adjustment giving myself injections but worth it to keep my vision in check. I have developed cataracts from the steroid eye drops but once they are fixed I will have my vision back to what it was before diagnosis!<\/p>
While pregnant with my daughter I completed my certification in wedding planning so I hope to start doing that in the near future. It\u2019s something I\u2019ve always wanted to do since I was little and I\u2019m proud I was able to accomplish that goal!<\/p>
My PsA has made me who I am today. A wife. A mom. A warrior. A fighter. I know I can achieve whatever I dream, I just do it a little differently than most. My husband is my rock and I know I could never have gotten to where I am today without him cheering me on. My kids are my life. They understand my disease as best they can and they understand mom is a little different. They are compassionate and helpful and amaze me everyday. I couldn\u2019t be prouder!<\/p>

Growing up with psoriatic arthritis has\u00a0 given me the ability to have a voice, to advocate for myself when I know something is wrong or I know I need something different. I am working on not hiding my pain and letting people in and asking for help but it is a work in progress. Please reach out. Get the help you need. Whether it be mentally or physically. Awareness for PsA is needed as it\u2019s a rare disease and hard to diagnose. Most go undiagnosed way too long. Just know you\u2019re not alone!<\/p>
